Hi/Hallo.
My name is Kevin, and I am an expat from the United States. I have ran D&D 5e for almost two years now and I am diving into the new 2024 core rules. I love horror movies, sci-fi, fantasy, anime, and I am an avid gamer. My wife and I are currently reading through the Stormlight Archive and everything Brandon Sanderson is writing (Mistborn is my fave). But my true love lies in Robert Jordan's a Wheel of Time series where a trio of underdog villagers and friends fight the return of a real BBEG.
My introduction to D&D was during a hot summer in Oregon, USA over 20 years ago. I sat around with friends in an abandoned and empty swimming pool role playing heroes, monsters, and villains without really knowing the rules. As everything does, it ended in a fiery mess as the dungeon master ended our tiny but memorable dungeon crawl with a giant boulder trap that killed us all. It was fun but for some odd reason we never played again.
Fast-forward years later, my wife introduced me to a group of adults playing D&D and I joined in. I enjoyed collaborating with my fellow players on accomplishing quests for Candlkeep as an aarakocra rogue. Figuring out how to find my role play voice took time, but I love the imagination that sprung up again that likened back to my childhood. Somewhere between the level 10-12 sessions, a group of work buddies decided to get into D&D and I decided I would give DM'ing a shot.
Suffice to say it was a success and I am still currently overseeing their adventures in the misty lands of Barovia. A fun engaging story that has my friends isekai'ed into it via dying from dragon's breath in their own world, and given an impossible task to rid the universe of Strahd.
I enjoy cool, emotional, and dramatic moments with players and seeing everyone's imagination come alive is something I really enjoy.
If we are in a table together, some things:
1. Rules. D&D 5e w/ 2024 core rule updates. Some homebrews. RP and Combat is balanced. Mostly one-shots for now (homebrew and published ones).
2. Be kind and respectful. Treat everyone with courtesy.
3. Speaking of rules. They are meant to be broken for cool moments. I learned that if I say "and then...?" to a player, their imagination fills all the gaps leading to a lot more fun.
4. I only speak English currently, so my games will all be in English. (learning Dutch)
