D&D / TTRPG One-Shots

Thursday, 11 January 2024 @ 19:30

Location: Visserstraat 18-A, 5612 BT Eindhoven

Every Thursday evening we host a One-Shot event. One-Shots are D&D or other TTRPG adventures that are played in a single session.

Weekly we try to get 5 a 6 GM's to run a table in D&D or other TTRPG rulesets and at different playing levels. It really doesn't matter if you are a beginner or expert player. All people are welcome. Our tables run in dutch and/or english (as we have a big expat community in the region in and around Eindhoven.)

Entrance fee for playing is 3.50 euro + 1.50 euro for consumption credit.

Please check out our socials for more information about the D&D and TTRPG One-Shots

legacy of the crystal shard #8

The people of Icewind Dale have long stood against the perils of the North. For most of these folk, the events that shook the region a hundred years ago are now distant memories. But what was defeated was not destroyed, and the sinister influence of the Crystal Shard, Crenshinibon, has now wormed its way into the very land of Icewind Dale. As evil forces converge on Ten Towns, the people of the North face their greatest trial yet. Fortunately, they won’t have to face it alone.

Legacy of the crystal shard is a mini campaign for level 1-3 set in Icewind Dale, it is a prequel to the 5e adventure "Rime of the Frostmaiden". There are multiple threats facing the Ten Towns of Icewind dale, and your adventuring group doesn't have the 10 heroes you would need to be in 10 places at the same time. So you will have to make hard choices in regards to which town to help first.

You start out as a caravan guard, but will quickly become involved in politics, exploring dangerous areas and fighting horrible ice monsters.

The rules for character creation are::
- All official content is allowed
- No homebrew
- No Unearth Arcana
- For ability score use Standard Array or Point Buy
- Custom Lineage / Races etc from Tasha's are allowed

For your character background: come up with a reason why you would go to a relative isolated region, and why you would want to protect it. Do consider that you start out as a hired guard for a caravan.

recap (spoilers):

After locating the black ice pirates, the adventuring party decided to go in their base while the pirate ship was out sailing. They managed to overwhelm the pirate camp and set up and advantageous position for an ambush of the returning pirate ship. Some of the adventuring party however, decided to give up this advantage and simply try to kill as many of the pirates as possible in a close up battle. One of them got captured, and one died. The rest of the party managed to make their way back to Easthaven to hopefully regroup with some other adventurers.

**Campaign setting**

This campaign setting will take place in the embercore. You're a person that has lived in this horrible place as long as you can remember.

You might have once supported the ideals of the empire or you were always against it.

Maybe you finally had enough or something is forcing you to flee. Maybe some of the ideals still linger in your mind and you have a hard time leaving them behind. Either way somehow you find yourself in a search for something that can change your current situation. You're looking for the resistance. A group that only seems to exist in the hopes and dreams of the people struggling to stay alive. But you've found some clues that it's not just talk amongst the poor. You found out there might actually be a group hiding on the Lost isle. An island that once was alive until the empire cut it off completely.

You gathered your courage and left your life behind in search for the resistance.

This is a private table and can't be registered for. Please contact the Game Master if you like to know more.

Welcome to the (probably) final session of this mini-campaign.

You and your group of fellow dwarves have been investigating the disappearance of the dwarves of a mining outpost.

For a detailed summary of session 1 please go to https://reservation.gameforce.nl/gamedays/details/335bd942-60ea-4d19-bbd6-2512f2d01312

For a detailed summary of session 3 please go to https://reservation.gameforce.nl/gamedays/details/6ac755d6-e2ac-4e51-b85b-9277eb359bd3

At the end of session 3, as you prepared to get some well deserved rest, you got rudely interrupted by the cries of captured dwarves and derro alike. You found out who the derro are: former dwarves who eons ago decided to split from the rest of the dwarves and whose society has at quite a few times been taken over by evil creatures from the deep underdark. You believe their words that they come from a city called Wertad Vehasd which is overtaken by some creature who is working its inhabitants to death. The derro in front of you are rebels and other outcasts who were sold/sent to the temple of the Mind Flayer to become its victims. The derro and you have a common enemy (you want to stop the possible threat of this ruling creature, and they want their city back without the creature) so you both decide to help each other.

You bring back the dwarves to their mining outpost, take your first rest in quite a while and head back to the ancient tunnel and turn left this time: towards the derro city. Along the way you walk right into a section of the tunnel inhabited by Darkmantles and later on, along a river of magma, you stumble upon elemental creatures which you despose off after a while.

You are now getting close to the derro city, but the rebel leader warns you that you have to watch out for any scouting partols and the like.

And that is where session 4 ended: time to come up with a plan?

Logbook Entry #1

by Bertha

Main task: Find the missing dwarves and bring them back safe.

Status: DONE!

Found 4 in the outpost (death by Faceless). Found 1 in the tunnels (death by parasitic plant). Probably another 1 dead (the one whom the Faceless used so he could change into a dwarf). Found 5 stashed in the chests in the temple. The remaining 23 have been found and returned to the mining outpost. Even the one who had to count to 3600, got left behind and is now scarred for life by trauma...

Logbook Entry #2

by Bhatgorg after the battle in the temple

Side quest: Defeat a big brain meanie in the temple of the smarty pants.

Status: We did Boink! Also saw (fire) boom! Big meanie down. Head ouchie! We now go? How we go?

Logbook Entry #3

by Kharak after the second battle in the temple

Side quest: Get some rest.

Status: We wanted to get some rest and heal up, but suddenly people began calling for help. That's not a good moment to go to sleep.

Logbook Entry #4

by Borg after the battle near the magma river

Side quest: Defeat the usurper.

Status: The derro city has been taken over by some creature that is probqably a threat to the dwarves. We could work together with rebel derro to defeat it. But how do we get to it in a city full of derro (and other creatures?)?

The following is applicable for this mini-campaign:

Campaign type (& session type) (on a scale of 1-low to 9-heavy):

  • Battleheaviness: 6 (7)
  • Roleplaying: 5 (7)
  • Social interaction: 3 (5)
  • Mystery solving: 5 (5)
  • Puzzle solving: 4 (1)
  • Creative thinking: encouraged!

This session can be done in many ways It depends on your choices of course.

Character:

  • Your character will be a dwarf.
  • Level 6. (For those who played before: You leveled up!)
  • All official content is allowed.
  • No homebrew.
  • No Unearth Arcana.
  • For ability scores use Standard Array or Point Buy.
  • Custom Lineage / Races etc. from Tasha's are allowed.

Equipment:

  • You each have 500 gold to spend before and during the one-shot.
  • You may each select 2 common or uncommon magical items which are befitting a dwarf*.

* befitting a dwarf unique for dwarves. Many items are not made specially for dwarves, but will still be befitting a dwarven character and are thus very welcome. For example, a +1 weapon may not be unique for dwarves, but a +1 battleaxe or a +1 warhammer fits a dwarf very well.
However, for example dwarves ♫♪ won't fly so high ♫♪. Therefore, Winged Boots or a Broom of Flying would not be befitting a dwarf.
Feel free to be creative though.

Side notes:

  • I am quite new at being a DM.
  • This mini campaign consists of about 5 sessions. Each session is open to everyone, so feel free to join if you did or did not join the previous session(s) (i.e. hop on when you want). And no obligation to join future sessions (hop off when you want).
  • If you have a question, don't hesitate to send me a message on Discord (Savanc#8239).
