D&D / TTRPG One-Shots

Thursday, 23 November 2023 @ 19:30

Location: Visserstraat 18-A, 5612 BT Eindhoven

Every Thursday evening we host a One-Shot event. One-Shots are D&D or other TTRPG adventures that are played in a single session.

Weekly we try to get 5 a 6 GM's to run a table in D&D or other TTRPG rulesets and at different playing levels. It really doesn't matter if you are a beginner or expert player. All people are welcome. Our tables run in dutch and/or english (as we have a big expat community in the region in and around Eindhoven.)

Entrance fee for playing is 3.50 euro + 1.50 euro for consumption credit.

Please check out our socials for more information about the D&D and TTRPG One-Shots

The Red Wizard Nicolas lives secluded on his small island. Every year he travels by boat to the sea town of Gorkum, to meet with other wizards of his order and share magical secrets. A kind man, he usually brings sweets for the local kids. And in time, he even started bringing and some gold coins for the adults that have shown themselves good all year!

It became a festive tradition where people would line up in the harbour to await his arrival, eager to get some yummy sweets and treats!

But this year, Nicolas didn't arrive! People were in distress!

What a disaster, where is the Red Wizard? What happened to Nicolas? People have been good ALL YEAR! They want their gifts... And their gold!

Game

This game will be in the Dungeon World System. A system in the same vein and world as Dungeons & Dragons, but with rules based on epic narration, so it's more focused on action and a cool story! Easy to play for everyone, beginners or experienced players alike.

Dice can be provided (The system used two six-sided dice for most of the rolls) if you don't have any of your own. Character creation is a quick process which we will do as a group at the start of the game.

Sometimes the multiverse doesn’t work as it should. Case in point: you find yourselves victims of an unprecedented multiversal mistake. You have led a remarkable life, died by suspicious means, and were reborn untethered from your true past. This makes each of you a singularity of existential uncertainty—a being that the laws of the multiverse contort around as planar forces fail to identify their logical place in reality.

Ranging from the planar metropolis of Sigil to the fringes of the Outlands, this Dungeons & Dragons adventure takes characters on a tour of remarkable realms, where they’ll brush shoulders with immortals and discover a plot to forever change the multiverse.

This will be an ongoing story, played with a continuously changing group of players in a hop on/hop off style. Because of the effects of the “Glitch” your characters will not notice this as the characters have confusing, vague, and sometimes conflicting memories of multiple possible or previous lives.

Please make your own characters following these basic rules:

  • Use Point buy/Standard array for stats
  • Average or Fixed HP
  • All official content is allowed, no Unearthed Arcana (please contact me if you want to use the Planescape character options)
  • Normal starting equipment, plus 250gp to spend on additional (nonmagical) gear
  • 1 Uncommon magical item of your choosing (please contact me for approval)
  • Answer the following questions for your character (keep a record of the answer for yourself:
  1. What was the greatest decision or turning point in your character’s life? If your character made a different decision, how might their life be different? How would they be different if they made their choices based on others’ espectations?
  2. What is something your character wishes they could change about themselves? How would the best version of themselves be different?
  3. What is your character’s signature possession or physical trait? What makes you certain that your character would retain this no matter what could have happened in their life?

Due to the ‘glitch’, each character has not just a single form, but three incarnations. These incarnations share the same level and advance at the same time, but they can be otherwise as different or similar as the player wishes. Incanations might use completely different character options, they might have different physical forms, or they might simply have cosmetic differences.

Please prepare at least one, but preferably both of these ‘variants’ for your character, using the same rules (except for any equipment as you keep those between your incarnations). A player plays one incarnation at a time. When creating different incarnations, players should review their answers to the above mentioned questions and consider how different choices might have led their character down different paths.

This is a rerun of the session I ran on November 9th

Murder in Baldur's gate #3

Baldur’s Gate is a city on the verge of war—a simmering stewpot of social tensions where even the smallest drop
of unrest might cause it to boil over and turn the city against itself. Walls cut Baldur’s Gate into three cities. The rich live atop bluffs protected from the bourgeoisie. Their homes cling to the slopes that literally prevent member of the middle class from rising above their stations. Beyond the protection of the walls, the city’s many’outcasts live with no law aside from that enforced by the daggers of thieves. In this powder keg, an old threat flickers to new life. The plot of a murdered deity finally comes to fruition, resurrecting the god of assassins. Bhaal wilI live again. And in the city that once thwarted his rebirth, three prominent figures unwittingly compete to herald his return. As the bodies clog the streets, can the heroes keep the city from tearing itself apart? Can they prevent Bhaal from claiming the mind and soul of one of the city’s most powerful citizens? Or, as the 3 battle their way to the top of the heap, will Bhaal’s favor fall upon one of them? Only one thing is certain:

There will be blood

Note: since this is a murder mystery, make sure to read the recap in case you want to join. Otherwise you will be missing vital information

Murder in Baldur's gate is an adventure set 10 years before the events of Baldur's gate 3. It is a prequel to Descent into Avernus.
It is set during the time of the Sundering, a period of years when many of the gods designate mortals to be their Chosen. Bhaal being one of them.

Your adventuring party is known as the "Heroes of the Wide". With the "Wide" being a large marketplace in the Upper city (upper class part of the city). So keep that in mind when making a character.

As you might expect from a campaign set in Baldur's Gate, expect a lot of morally dubious characters, and thus also a lot of morally dubious options that you might have available to stop Bhaal.

character creation rules:

all official content allowed
no unearthed arcana
point buy for stats
fixed hp

The specific Baldur's gate background choices would be useful in this campaign, but you can pick the regular background without the Baldur's Gate variant.

Recap (spoilers):

As the heroes of the wide were attending a festival, one of the 4 dukes of Baldurs gate (Abdel Adrian) got attacked
by a Bhaalspawn Slayer. In the aftermath of this, the adventures got approached by 3 different people who all
have their own theory as to why Bhaal (the god of murder) is active again in Baldur's Gate.
They also met someone from the parliament of peers named Coran.

Ulder Ravengard: With the death of the duke, Ulder Ravengard became the new marshal of the
flaming fist (Police force in the Lower city). He belies that law and order needs to be re-established to reduce Bhaals influence

Rilsa Rael: She is part of the Guild, a robin-hood style organisation from the lower city.
She claims that these problems are caused by poverty and income inequality

Torlin Silvershield: A Duke of Baldur's Gate. He believes that the cult of the dead three is responsible for the increase of Bhaals influence,
and he thinks that the guild is harbouring them.

Coran: One of the 50 members of the parliament of peers. He offered the party means to get information and
certain equipment from him (the kind that isn't easy to buy on a market or in a shop), for the right price of course.
He himself is a retired adventures who seemingly is nowadays moslty occupied with partying and drinking.

Current situation:

After the attempt to help Rilsa failed, the party decided to help the other 2. The Low light lantern already had a brawl going on when they arrived, with the owner escaping, but they did close down the gambling den in the outer city. They also investigated the potential cultist that Torlin has pointed out. With the search writ, they found out that an alchemist was possibly making smoke powder, and a horse vendor had connections to an unknown but shady sounding person.

Meanwhile, the arm of several statues were cut off. They adventuring party was able to figure out that 2 boys from wealthy families were probably responsible. One of the adventuring party did mention this to the flaming fist as well. The adventuring party is currently going on the trail that the boys probably took, where it seems they took a boat to a statue on the outer city.

Meanwhile in Baldur's Gate itself: Tensions are rising. Anti flaming fist Graffiti is being sprayed everywhere. Also the garbage collectors are on strike.
